2nd barn fire hits Wellington area

A barn and workshop has been destroyed by fire in the western P.E.I. community of St. Phillipe.

Firefighters from the Wellington Volunteer Fire Department were still on the scene on the MacIsaac Road at 7 a.m. Tuesday.

This is the second major fire in the area in the last few days. On Saturday Wellington firefighters spent 10 hours knocking back the flames at a barn fire on a farm in Abram-Village.

The call from St. Phillipe came in around 4 a.m. and by the time firefighters arrived the building had collapsed.

Crews turned their attention to some round bales of hay in a nearby field that had caught fire, and trees near the building were scorched.

Twenty firefighters battled the blaze.
