2nd Harvest mobile market stops at Richland church in time for Thanksgiving
A small army of volunteers from LifeChurch7 and Energy Northwest work together Friday morning sorting and bagging fresh produce for distribution at the 2nd Harvest Mobile Market event in the parking lot of the LifeChurch7 in Richland.
About 50 volunteers were on hand to help give out free food to about 250 Mid-Columbia families.
The drive-thru market, held the week before Thanksgiving, featured lots of fresh produce, including: mushrooms, blueberries, raspberries, lettuce, potatoes, butternut squash, ready-to-eat mashed potatoes and bread.
The event was one of six regularly scheduled food distributions held during the year by the church at 1100 Stevens Dr. in Richland.
Cars started lining up in the church parking lot several hours before the 11 a.m. start of the food give-away.
Organizers predicted the 7,500 pounds of food would be handed out by 12:30 p.m.
