3 arrested after alleged assault and gunfire in Surrey

Police arrested three people after an alleged assault led to gunfire in Surrey, B.C., Thursday night.

The incident began at about midnight in the area around 113B Avenue and 132 Street. Surrey RCMP responded with a significant number of officers, including the heavily armed emergency response team and the K-9 unit.

Officers arrived to find a person who said he had witnessed and intervened in an alleged assault by several people against one male, according to Surrey RCMP.

The witness told police that the attackers fled and a vehicle arrived to pick up the victim. Someone in that vehicle allegedly fired a single gunshot at the witness, but didn't hit him.

Police said they found the vehicle in the 12900 block of 100 Avenue, and three people were arrested.

The victim of the original attack was taken to hospital, but police didn't reveal the extent of his injuries.

It's unclear if the alleged assault was targeted. The investigation is ongoing.
