3 Cape Breton Regional Police officers suspended

Three Cape Breton Regional Police officers have been suspended from the force, a union spokeswoman confirmed Saturday.

The three are Sgt. Jerome Kelly, Const. Roberta Kelly and Const. Greg Livingston, said the Nova Scotia Government and General Employees Union. The union would not give reasons for the suspensions, which took place Friday.

No charges have been laid in the matter.

According to the NSGEU Facebook page, Kelly was recently elected board alternate for the union's occupational council. He serves in the department's east division where he is the sergeant in charge of patrol.

CBC News contacted Cape Breton Regional Police and a spokesperson with police said they would not be commenting other than to say it was an internal matter and there might be more to say on Monday or Tuesday.

The NSGEU spokeswoman said if the members are charged, they'll be provided with representation under the Police Act if needed.
