Three people are dead following a collision involving two vehicles on the Trans-Canada Highway near Appleton Saturday night.
Gander RCMP received a report of a motor vehicle accident around 8:20 p.m. Saturday.
Officers closed both lanes of the highway to traffic for approximately three hours while attending the scene.
The three victims were the only occupants of the two vehicles.
In a news release on Monday, the RCMP said an SUV travelling west and a car travelling east collided head on.
The two passengers of the car, a 23-year-old male and a 22-year-old female, died at the scene. They were both from Gander, according to police.
The lone passenger of the SUV, a 51-year-old female of Lewisporte, was taken to hospital and later died from injuries, said the RCMP.
The RCMP said alcohol is not suspected to have played a role in the crash.
The investigation is ongoing.
