Toronto rapper Redway reportedly among 3 dead in Highway 427 crash

Toronto rapper Redway was reportedly among the three people killed in a fiery crash on Highway 427 early Saturday morning.

The incident happened around 4 a.m. on the Highway 427 northbound ramp to the westbound Highway 401 when a Honda Accord struck the right side of the guardrail, according to the OPP.

Two people were found dead in the car and one was pulled out of the vehicle for resuscitation. Police have not released the age or gender of those deceased but Sgt. Kerry Schmidt with Toronto OPP confirmed the incident involved a male driver.

Moments after the crash, passersby also pulled a third person, a woman, from the car before it was fully engulfed in flames. She was taken to hospital and was later pronounced dead. Police have not released her age.

Schmidt said he could not confirm any details regarding the victims until dental records confirm their identities. The Honda Accord was licensed to a person who has been accounted for and was not in the vehicle.

While Toronto police did not confirm victim identities, it is believed Toronto rapper Redway is among the dead.

Redway's management group confirmed his death by releasing the following statement: "With a heavy heart and deepest regards, its with great sadness to announce the sudden death of Toronto rapper Shane Redway. Redway was known for being a passionate artist who was always striving for greatness, pushing the boundaries of always believing in your visions and dreams."

Redway was reportedly spotted at the OVO Bounce basketball tournament last night in Toronto and tweets from the rapper's account appear to confirm this. The 26-year-old with Jamaican roots is from Mississauga. An online fund has been created to help the family cover funeral costs. His family is asking for privacy at this time.

Investigators are looking into the circumstances of the crash, the OPP said.

All lanes have been reopened after they were closed Saturday morning for an investigation, the OPP GTA traffic division has tweeted.
