Halifax RCMP say they have taken three men into custody after responding to a call about numerous gunshots being fired at a residence in North Preston.

Police said in a news release they were called to Cain Street shortly after 1 a.m. Tuesday.

"While responding, police attempted to stop a vehicle leaving the area when it refused to pull over," the release said.

"Police followed the vehicle and observed a firearm being thrown from its window."

The release said the vehicle eventually stopped on the Forest Hills Extension just before Highway 118. Two firearms were seized, including the one thrown to the side of the road.

Police said the three suspects were taken into custody without incident.
