Three people died in a shooting at a Publix in Royal Palm Beach, Florida.
Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office said that the three dead included one man, one woman, and a child.
The woman interfered with the gunman's weapon, causing the gun to jam, the Sheriff's Office said.
Three people died in a shooting at a Publix in Royal Palm Beach, Florida, the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office said on Thursday.
The sheriff's office said deputies called to the scene found an adult male, an adult female, and a child dead from gunshot wounds inside the grocery store.
On Friday, the sheriff's office confirmed that two of the victims were a 69-year-old grandmother and her 1-year-old grandchild. Officials did not release their names.
The suspected gunman was the third person found dead. Authorities identified him as 55-year-old Timothy J. Wall on Friday.
According to officials, the two victims entered the store at 11:07 a.m. on Thursday. The gunman entered the Publix minutes later at 11:29 a.m, and walked into the produce section where the victims were located. He produced a gun at 11:31 a.m.
The gunman then shot the 1-year-old, authorities said. The child's grandmother interfered with the gunman and "because of her brave actions," his gun jammed. After "some struggling, the gunman fatally shot the woman and then killed himself.
Deputies were first dispatched to the scene at 11:36 a.m., where they found the three dead.
Palm Beach County Sheriff Ric Bradshaw on Friday said he believes this crime could have been prevented. Authorities said the suspect was on Facebook "saying he wanted to kill people and children."
The shooter's own wife reportedly said he had been acting strange and paranoid.
Aerial video footage from the scene showed multiple law enforcement vehicles outside the Publix following the shooting and several employees gathered safely outside of the store.
Officials on Friday said they had interviewed 30 people who were inside the store during the shooting and recovered video evidence of the entire incident.
