3 underrated Amazon Prime Video movies you should watch this weekend (November 22-24)

As we move toward the end of the year, there are more and more reasons to stay indoors and watch a great movie. Amazon Prime Video has one of the best libraries of movies worth exploring, but if you find yourself stuck when deciding what to actually watch, you’re not alone.

A library as big as Amazon’s can actually make deciding what to watch more difficult instead of easier. That’s why we’ve rounded up three titles available on Prime Video that are the perfect way to spend the weekend.

We also have guides to the best movies on Netflix, the best movies on Hulu, the best movies on Amazon Prime Video, the best movies on Max, and the best movies on Disney+.

The Lost City of Z (2017)

The Lost City of Z - Official US Trailer | Amazon Studios

Based on a true story, The Lost City of Z follows Percy Fawcett, a British explorer who became convinced that he could uncover a lost city hidden in the Amazon. He traveled to the Amazon several times over the span of decades, nearly losing his life several times, and sacrificing the lives of many others.

While the movie is about a mystery, it’s also about a man’s singular obsession with finding something that remains stubbornly out of his reach. It’s also a movie that, as much as it admires Fawcett, also acknowledges the family he left behind every time he went to the Amazon in search of his own greatness.

You can watch The Lost City of Z on Amazon Prime Video.

Gosford Park (2001)

Gosford Park | Official Trailer | 2001

An upstairs/downstairs drama that is curdled by a mysterious murder, Gosford Park is one of director Robert Altman’s best movies. The movie’s incredible ensemble cast includes Maggie Smith, Michael Gambon, Kristin Scott Thomas, Emily Watson, Clive Owen, and Helen Mirren, among many others.

Writer Julian Fellowes went on to create Downton Abbey, and the sensibility of that series is also present here. Gosford Park is, at its core, a black comedy about the way class difference defines British society, but the murder mystery gives you extra reasons to stay engaged.

You can watch Gosford Park on Amazon Prime Video.

The Hunt (2020)

The Hunt - Official Trailer [HD]

A movie that got killed by the pandemic, The Hunt has slightly confusing politics, but it’s incredibly fun nonetheless. The film follows 12 strangers who wake up in the middle of nowhere, only to discover that they are being hunted and have to fight for their lives.

Once they realize the kind of game they’re in, one of them begins to turn the tables and goes after the people who have orchestrated this whole affair. Featuring a terrific central performance from Betty Gilpin, The Hunt is a lot of fun, and a movie worth seeing.

You can watch The Hunt on Amazon Prime Video.
