3 vehicles smashed in accident at 3-way intersection in St. John's

Two people were taken to hospital, apparently with minor injuries, and two streets were closed after a three-vehicle accident in St. John's Thursday afternoon.

The accident happened around 5 p.m. where Hamilton Avenue Extension and Albany Street converge onto Cornwall Avenue.

All three vehicles have major damage.

"I had just left my daughter's and was coming down to go on home and I slowed down to make the turn here at the intersection," said Tom Green, who was driving a Kia Soul.

Green told CBC News that a red car hit a black pickup at the three-way stop.

"And it [the truck] just turned right over and came right over on top of me. Lucky enough, we never got hurt."

Green said he doesn't know if the woman who was driving the red car was hurt, but a couple in the pickup were taken to hospital to be treated for what appeared to be cuts and bruises.

Both Albany Street and Hamilton Avenue Extension were closed to traffic while the accident was cleared.
