3 young children injured in crash between minivan, pickup truck
Three young children were injured after a crash between a pickup truck and a minivan on Thursday morning, including a three-year-old girl whose car seat detached from a rear seat and flew into the front console of the van.
It happened at the intersection of Spratt and Earl Armstrong roads at about 8:30 a.m., paramedics said in a media release.
The truck ended up flipped over in the intersection.
Four people in the minivan were treated by paramedics and were taken to hospital, including:
- The three-year-old girl in the dislodged car seat who suffered facial injuries.
- A five-year-old girl who suffered a shoulder injury.
- A 17-month-old girl who suffered abrasions.
- A 35-year-old woman in a passenger seat who suffered abdominal, knee and ankle injuries.
The driver of the minivan and the driver of the pickup truck refused to be assessed by paramedics.
Paramedics are reminding drivers "to strictly adhere to manufacturer's instruction in the installation of car seats ... and the safe and proper use of the car seat's restraint systems."
Ottawa police are investigating. There was no immediate word Thursday morning on whether charges will be laid.
