The Montreal police service's major crimes unit is investigating after a 33-year-old man was found dead with at least one bullet wound in Montreal's Rivière-des-Prairies neighbourhood Sunday afternoon.

Police say the man was found on the ground near a car at 7th Avenue, near 55th Avenue, just after noon. He was pronounced dead on scene.

The body had "traces of violence caused by a firearm," according to Caroline Chèvrefils, spokeserson for the Service de police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM.)

The circumstances of the homicide are not yet known and the investigation is ongoing.

The man's death is this year's 23rd homicide on Montreal police territory.
