$300,000 McLaren sports car destroyed in crash, driver charged
A man is facing impaired driving charges causing bodily harm after he allegedly crashed a luxury sports car worth over $300,000 in Burlington late Thursday, seriously injuring his passenger.
The man, 23, suffered minor injuries in the crash on Oaklands Park Court. His passenger, a 47-year-old man, was left with "significant" injuries to his lower extremities. Both men were taken to hospital.
The vehicle, a McLaren MP4-12C Spider supercar, crashed into a hydro transformer. Nine homes are without power due to the damage sustained by the transformer.
Halton Regional Police Service said they received a call about the single-vehicle crash at about 11:50 p.m. Police, along with Burlington Fire and Halton paramedics, responded to the crash.
Police said the driver was arrested at the scene and held overnight for a bail hearing scheduled for Friday morning. He is to be charged with impaired driving causing bodily harm and driving with a blood-alcohol level exceeding the legal limit.
Staff Sgt. Crystal Kelly, spokesperson for Halton police, said a citizen called police about the crash and the power outage.
Burlington Hydro said full power should be restored within a few hours.
Police said they have reopened the road that was closed to allowed them to investigate.
