A 31-year-old woman is dead following a three-vehicle crash in Oromocto on Wednesday.

RCMP Const. Hans Ouellette said the crash happened shortly before 4:30 p.m. on the Restigouche Road near the intersection with Broad Road.

The woman, who was from Waterville, a community about 10 kilometres south of Oromocto, died at the scene of the crash from her injuries, Ouellette said.

An RCMP news release said a vehicle travelling westbound on Restigouche Road collided with two cars travelling eastbound. The deceased was the driver of the westbound car, the release said.

"A 34-year-old woman, who was the driver of the second car, was transported to hospital. A woman and a boy in the third vehicle were treated at the scene for what are believed to be minor injuries," the release said.

Oromocto Fire Chief Jody Price said firefighters responded to the crash alongside Ambulance New Brunswick and RCMP.

He said two vehicles were flipped upside down, including the one driven by the 31-year-old woman. He said fire crews used the Jaws of Life to extricate one person.

The RCMP release said an autopsy has been scheduled to find the woman's exact cause of death.
