3rd capital murder suspect arrested in fatal shooting of man at west Fort Worth motel

A third suspect has been arrested in connection with a July shooting that killed one person and injured another at a west Fort Worth motel.

Eighteen-year-old John Bazan was booked into the Fort Worth City Jail on Friday. He faces charges including capital murder and aggravated robbery, according to jail records.

Bazan was initially arrested Friday on a charge of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, according to the police report. The vehicle had been reported stolen from outside a 7-Eleven on Thursday. Police said they arrested Bazan when they made a traffic stop of the stolen car.

Officers responded to the shooting at Landmark Lodge motel at 7501 Camp Bowie West Blvd. around 3:20 p.m. July 1. They found two people who’d been shot.

One of the victims, 23-year-old Sergio Navarro, died less than an hour later. Navarro died from a gunshot wound to the abdomen, according to the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office.

The case was being investigated as a robbery, police said.

Kendrale Carter, who was 18 at the time of the shooting, was arrested July 5, and is currently being held in the Tarrant County Jail on a $500,000 bond. On Wednesday, a Tarrant County grand jury indicted Carter on a capital murder charge in connection with Navarro’s death.

A second suspect, 18-year-old Angel Lara, was arrested July 15. He’s also being held in the Tarrant County Jail on a $500,000 bond.

Lara was indicted on a capital murder charge Wednesday. He was also formally charged with tampering with physical evidence. According to the indictment, he’s accused of disassembling a firearm and scattering the individual parts at a location two hours away from the scene of the offense.
