4 charged with stealing copper from Colonsay, Sask., yard
Copper thefts continue to keep Saskatchewan police busy and now another four people have been charged.
A 43-year-old man from Young, Sask., and a woman, 39, from Saskatoon were recently charged with breaking, entering and theft, as well as possession of stolen property.
The charges stem from a Sept. 14 break-in and theft of copper wire from a compound in the Colonsay area. Police didn't identify the company that was robbed.
The RCMP said they executed a search warrant at a home in Young and found the wire.
Meanwhile, there was another copper theft and at the same compound in the Colonsay area on Sept. 24 and two other people have been charged.
Police recovered that batch of copper in the Grandora area and have charged a man, 50, from Grandora, and a man, 49, from Saskatoon, with breaking and entering, possession of stolen property and possession of break-in tools.
The RCMP continues to investigate and says there may be further charges. They are also trying to learn more about other items recovered from the Grandora search that they believe were stolen.
Copper is a perennial target for Saskatchewan thieves. Police say people try to sell the metal for its high scrap value.
