4 injured, 2 seriously, in single vehicle crash in Mississauga

Four people were injured, two seriously, after a single vehicle crash in Mississauga early Saturday that may have involved high speed, Ontario Provincial Police say.

The crash occurred on the Highway 410 off-ramp northbound to Courtneypark Drive East at about 4:30 a.m.

Sgt.Kerry Schmidt, spokesperson for OPP's Highway Safety Division, said the vehicle was travelling northbound on the off-ramp when it exited towards Courtneypark Drive but failed to follow the curve of the road.

The vehicle struck a guardrail, knocked it down and ended up a grassy area. Then the vehicle rolled over before coming to a rest.

Peel Regional Paramedics said two people were taken to a trauma centre in Toronto initially in critical condition. They suffered serious injuries. The other two people involved in the crash were taken to a local hospital with minor injuries.

Schmidt said there were four people in the vehicle at the time of the crash.

"We believe right now that two people were possibly ejected from the vehicle," he said.

A collision reconstruction team is still on the scene and the off-ramp remains closed.

Schmidt said the vehicle may have been travelling at a high rate of speed.

Police are appealing for witnesses. Anyone who may have witnessed the crash is urged to call Port Credit OPP at (905) 278-6131.

David Viljak, deputy commander for Peel Regional Paramedics, said all four people in the vehicle were adults.
