5 fun things to do in Windsor-Essex this weekend

Once again, there is a lot of Christmas-themed fun to be had in Windsor and Essex this weekend. And we've rounded up five different choices for you to consider.

Saturday Matinee

It will cost you just $5 to check out a screening of The Polar Express on Saturday afternoon.

The movie is playing at the Old Walkerville Theatre on Wyandotte Street E.

If you don't make it there this week, you will have another chance next week when another holiday film will be shown.

Winterfest

This downtown event takes place on Saturday and involves a parade, a wine show, roasted chestnuts and more.

The parade begins at 3 p.m. and will start out at Ouellette Avenue and Giles Street and then head north to Pitt Street. Spectators can expect to see marching bands, floats, giant inflatables and even singing Elvises. And yes, some well-known holiday characters and Santa Claus himself will be part of the parade, too.

The man in red will be posing for photos ahead of the parade. Families can meet him between 11 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. To meet Santa, you'll have to head to the Windsor Star News Café at 300 Ouellette Ave.

Tecumseh Santa Claus Parade

Unfortunately, this parade was abruptly cancelled on Friday afternoon, due to inclement weather.

But all other activities will go ahead as planned in Tecumseh on Friday evening.

And that includes a chance for children and families to meet Santa Claus at the Tecumseh Town Hall at 917 Lesperance Rd., between 6 p.m. and 9 p.m.

Allison Lupton performance at Mackenzie Hall

Allison Lupton and her band are playing a Saturday night show at Mackenzie Hall.

The show starts at 8 p.m.

The tickets cost $19 for those who are Windsor Folk members. They are $23 for everybody else.

Tug of War

A screening of the film Tug of War will take place at the University of Windsor on Friday night. A panel discussion will follow.

The film tells the fictional story of two men who go down a path of radicalization.

It's free to go and the film will be shown in Room 104 of the Odette Building at Wyandotte Street W. and Sunset Avenue. It starts at 6:30 p.m.
