5 of Margot Robbie's best looks this year and 5 that missed the mark
Margot Robbie has been making fashionable appearances since the start of 2024.
Her outfits have ranged from glamorous gowns to designer two-piece sets.
But some of the "Barbie" star's outfits have missed the mark.
Only three months into the year, Margot Robbie has made fashionable appearances on over a dozen occasions.
She's attended everything from Hollywood luncheons to the Golden Globe Awards, and her outfits have ranged from glamorous gowns to designer two-piece sets.
But the "Barbie" star has also worn a few outfits that missed the mark.
Here's a look at her best and worst outfits from the year so far.
Margot Robbie had one of the best fashion moments of her career at the 2024 Golden Globes.
She arrived on the Golden Globes red carpet wearing a hot-pink, sequin-covered gown designed by Armani Privé. It had a V-shaped neckline, thin straps across her shoulders, and a floor-length skirt.
The custom piece, as well as her fishnet boa, were inspired by the 1977 Superstar Barbie doll.
Her minidress for the Screen Actors Guild Awards wasn't as strong.
Designed by Schiaparelli, her black minidress was strapless and form-fitting with a pink belt around the waist. Attached to the belt was a massive piece of fabric that extended above her shoulder and across the floor.
A sketch of the dress was originally shared as part of Schiaparelli's fall 2020 collection, but the garment itself wasn't made at the time due to the pandemic, W Magazine reported.
Robbie was the ideal celebrity to bring the look to life, as it matched the "Barbie" color scheme. However, the 3D feature of the dress would have worked better in a different fabric, such as tulle, or if it had been shaped more structurally into something like a bow. But as is, the pink fabric was mostly a confusing addition.
The actor proved that she can rock any shade of pink while attending an Oscars luncheon.
She was photographed wearing a baby-pink Chanel set made from tweed on the event's red carpet. It included a cropped jacket worn over a thin bralette and a high-waisted miniskirt with a thick waistband.
The outfit perfectly suited Robbie, as did her designer accessories. She carried a mini purse made from the same fabric as her outfit and color-block pumps that screamed Chanel.
But the two-piece outfit she wore to the American Film Institute Awards missed the mark.
Wearing Chanel again, Robbie sported a black, high-waisted miniskirt accessorized with a diamond monogram belt. She also sported a coral-colored crop top with two pockets across the chest and a floral piece made from colorful jewels.
Though the skirt and top worked together, the attached jewelry clashed. By removing one of the sparkling pieces, the outfit easily could have looked more seamless.
She stunned in red at the 2024 Critics Choice Awards.
Designed by Balmain, the custom gown was made from leather that looked wet with ruching across its bodice. It also had a mermaid skirt and an off-the-shoulder neckline adorned with rose shapes.
Robbie completed the elegant look with diamond earrings and an updo hairstyle.
Her sparkling gown at the Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts Awards didn't live up to expectations.
As Harper's Bazaar reported, Robbie's sparkling, champagne-colored was made by Vivienne Westwood and inspired by a similar dress featured in the brand's Spring/Summer 1998 collection.
But as glamorous as Robbie looked, the gown couldn't compete with the original. The new version's shape looked more geometric than draped, and its muted fabric didn't help the sparkles shine as brightly as the gray fabric that made up the first gown.
Robbie perfected the pink-and-black color combo while attending the 2024 EE BAFTA Film Awards.
She walked the red carpet in a strapless, form-fitting gown custom-made for her by Giorgio Armani Privé. It was covered almost entirely in black sequins, aside from a panel of baby-pink satin that extended down the dress.
Not only did Robbie look like a Barbie doll in the ensemble, but it was also accessorized perfectly. She wore long black gloves, diamond jewelry, and a loose bun.
The same can't be said for her outfit at the Palm Springs International Film Festival Film.
Certain aspects of Robbie's pink, polka-dot minidress from Balmain worked great — like its ruched bodice and rosette detailing.
But when paired with a plunging neckline, long sleeves, and shoulder pads, the dress became overwhelmed with detail.
That said, her polka-dot kitten heels matched perfectly and were fitting for the "Barbie" star.
She was effortlessly glamorous in a black gown at the 2024 Governors Awards.
Celine designed her sleeveless dress, which had crystal-covered straps that extended down its front and four thin cutouts across the waist.
The look was classic and glamorous, especially when accessorized with diamond rings and earrings.
The leather jacket she wore on a party's red carpet would have worked better as a street-style outfit.
Beneath the wide leather jacket, Robbie wore a standout minidress covered in black sparkles and lined with a white crisscross design at the neckline.
The latter garment would have worked great both for a party and on the red carpet, so wearing the jacket on top seemed like a missed fashion opportunity.
