A total of $581,716 in Community Works Funds has been spent in Electoral Area B from 2014 to 2020 for public infrastructure projects.

Funds are funnelled to the Regional District of Nanaimo via the federal Gas Tax Agreement; the current agreement is in effect until 2024. Over six years, completed projects in RDN electoral areas total $4.46 million.

From 2014 to 2020, 18 projects have been funded in Area B, including purchase of buses for GERTIE, a solar array for the Gabriola Commons, Rollo Centre upgrades, roof replacements for GIRO and Gabriola Community Hall and a playground and sport court upgrade at Huxley Park.

The RDN allocates Community Works Funds to each electoral area based on population. The 2021 budget for Area B contains $618,438 in funds. Following expenditures – $599,634 to complete the Village Way Path and $18,804 for Huxley Park skatepark – $266,000 is expected to remain by the end of the year.
