6 more COVID deaths and 3,598 new cases in Singapore

SINGAPORE — The Ministry of Health (MOH) on Saturday (23 October) confirmed 3,598 new COVID-19 cases in Singapore – bringing the country's total case count to 169,261 – as well as six deaths due to the disease.

Saturday marks the 34rd day in a row with fatalities from COVID-19 reported in Singapore, with a total of 199 people here having succumbed to it thus far this month.

The 295th to 300th COVID-19 deaths in Singapore were two male Singaporean/Singapore Resident and four Singaporean women, aged between 61 and 91 years. Amongst them, four had been unvaccinated against COVID-19, and two had been vaccinated. All of them had various underlying medical conditions.

Amongst those who have died over the last 28 days, 31.2 per cent were fully vaccinated and 68.8 per cent were unvaccinated or partially vaccinated.

Of the new cases, 2,804 are in the community, 790 are in the migrant worker dormitories and four are imported.

Amongst the community cases are 471 seniors who are above 60 years. The ratio of community cases for the past week over the week before is 1.14.

The authorities are monitoring two large clusters with new cases: AWWA Community Home for Senior Citizens with 10 new cases and 59 in total, and Banyan Home @ Pelangi Village with six new cases and 60 in total.

Over the last 28 days, 98.6 per cent of local infected cases were asymptomatic or had mild symptoms, 0.9 per cent required oxygen supplementation in the general ward, 0.1 per cent were unstable and under close monitoring in the ICU to prevent further deterioration, and 0.1 per cent had been critically ill and intubated in the ICU. Amongst those who required oxygen supplementation and ICU, 46.4 per cent were fully vaccinated and 53.6 per cent were unvaccinated or partially vaccinated.

A total of 3,512 cases were discharged on Saturday, of whom 474 are seniors above 60 years.

As of Saturday, amongst all COVID-19 community cases who have been onboarded or admitted, 17,725 (70.4 per cent) cases are undergoing Home Recovery. Another 4,796 (19.1 per cent) cases are in Community Care Facilities, 960 (3.8 per cent) cases are in COVID-19 Treatment Facilities, and 1,680 (6.7 per cent) COVID-19 patients are currently warded in hospital, mostly for observation.

Among the latter group, 269 require oxygen supplementation in the general ward, 91 are unstable and under close monitoring in the ICU to prevent further deterioration, and 58 are critically ill and intubated in the ICU.

As of Friday, about 9.75 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines have been administered under the national vaccination programme. Some 4.63 million have received at least one dose of the vaccine, with some 4.57 million having completed the full vaccination regimen.

To date, about 910,000 eligible individuals have been invited to receive their booster doses – 680,979 of them have received their booster shots while another 88,000 have booked their appointments.

Separately, 237,336 doses of other vaccines recognised in the World Health Organization’s Emergency Use Listing (WHO EUL) have been administered as of Friday, covering 121,555 individuals.

This means that 84 per cent of the population have completed their full regimen or received two doses of COVID-19 vaccines, and 85 per cent have received at least one dose.
