6 dead, 6 stranded on Russian volcano as icy winds prevent rescue: 'We were forced to retreat'

Six people have died climbing the Klyuchevskaya Sopka volcano in Russia's far east and six more were believed to be stranded on Sunday, after severe winds forced authorities to abandon a rescue attempt. "The stormy wind prevented the helicopter from landing. So, we were forced to retreat," rescue official Igor Sesterov said.
