Actress Claire Danes leads a cast performance of Atwood’s classic, which has found a new audience with Hulu’s Elisabeth Moss-led TV series, which returns for its third season in June. The terrifying dystopian tale depicts women living in a world where they are forced into subservient roles, required to produce children for the powerful men around them when the men’s own wives cannot. As the official description reads, “the message (and the warning) is now more timely than ever.”

Becoming, by Michelle Obama

Valley of the Dolls, by Jacqueline Susann

Laverne Cox, known for her work on Orange Is the New Black, narrates the 50th anniversary edition of the 1966 classic, which was famously adapted into a 1967 movie starring Patty Duke and Sharon Tate. The novel, about a group of female friends over two decades, became a publishing phenomenon, with more than 31 million copies sold to date.

Most of these suggestions are books, but not this one. Saturday Night Live favorite Kate McKinnon and creative partner Emily Lynne, who happens to be her sister, are behind this new audio comedy, which debuts May 2 but is available for pre-order now. The plot is that an evil queen’s reign is threatened by an uprising of peasants and … c’mon, you know it’ll be funny with McKinnon on board. Guest stars include Meryl Streep, Tim Gunn, Audra McDonald, Peter Dinklage, the guys from Queer Eye and more.
