7-Eleven Day 2021: Get a free Slurpee for 7/11 and throughout July with rewards app

7-Eleven's birthday freebie is back.

For the second year in a row, the free Slurpee giveaway won't be a one-day deal but rather a monthlong offer redeemable in July for members of the chain's 7Rewards loyalty program.

America's largest convenience store chain said in a news release that it is spreading out its 94th “birthday celebration to avoid having millions of Americans crowded around Slurpee machines on a single day.”

It did the same last summer during the COVID-19 pandemic to reduce crowds on July 11 or 7/11, which also is known as 7-Eleven Day or Free Slurpee Day.

The annual birthday tradition began in 2002 for 7-Eleven's 75th birthday, and continued in the same fashion until 2020, marking the company’s busiest day of the year with millions of visitors cashing in to get a free brain freeze.

7-Eleven will drop coupons for free small Slurpee drinks into the accounts of new and existing 7Rewards loyalty members on July 1. New members, who join in July at 7-eleven.com/7rewards or through the app, will also receive the mobile coupon that expires July 31.

There's a limit of one free Slurpee per member, available at participating U.S. locations while supplies last. Hawaii locations are excluded.

7-Eleven traditionally celebrates its birthday by giving away free Slurpee drinks on July 11. But amid COVID, the convenience store chain has changed the offer to a monthlong promotion.

Freebies and giveaways changed during the pandemic

Many restaurants have changed or canceled giveaways during the pandemic to prevent crowds.

Dairy Queen canceled Free Cone Day 2021, its annual first day of spring freebie, and IHOP flipped its National Pancake Day promotion from a one-day free pancake fest into a month-long promotion.

While 7-Eleven changed its birthday giveaway, it added a new initiative during the pandemic, which it plans to continue this year. Like last year, 7-Eleven plans to donate a million free meals to Feeding America, which is considered the nation’s largest domestic hunger-relief organization.

“While we’re celebrating our birthday month, we are also mindful that the COVID-19 pandemic has had a lasting impact on many families,” Marissa Jarratt, the chain’s senior vice president and chief marketing officer, said in the release. “We know how important it is to come together and help the communities we serve in times of trouble.”

7-Eleven deals for rewards members

In addition to the free small Slurpee offer, the chain announced additional promotions for loyalty members offered on the 7-Eleven app in July:
