7-year-old found dead near California beach where stranger found his brother alone

A 7-year-old boy missing since his mom’s body was found off a Moss Landing beach last week has been found dead, California sheriff’s officials told news outlets.

The search began after a stranger found a 3-year-old boy alone on a Monterey Bay beach Wednesday, March 22, McClatchy News previously reported.

The boy told the passerby his mother was missing and later told firefighters his older brother also was missing.

Searchers found the mother’s body, and the U.S. Coast Guard began a search for the missing 7-year-old, according to McClatchy News.

On Saturday, March 25, divers found the boy’s body in 10 feet of water near the beach, Monterey County sheriff’s officials told KOIN.

The two children and their 27-year-old mother had gone for a visit to a beach near the boat landing, KION reported.

“She told me I’m here at the beach, mom. I’m with my kids, they wanted to come have fun,” her mother, Luciana Urvano, told KSBW.

Moss Landing is a community of 250 people on Monterey Bay about 100 miles south of San Francisco.
