8 distressed dogs rescued from Alberta hotel room after woman under court animal ban arrested

46 traffic charges laid during RCMP blitz for Ness Creek music festival

Innisfail RCMP say they've seized eight dogs and arrested a woman who was keeping the distressed animals in a hotel room.

RCMP were investigating reports of a suspicious woman Tuesday morning when they found the woman at a hotel in the town 30 kilometres southwest of Red Deer.

The 46-year-old was arrested. The woman had dogs in her possession, contrary to a court order that she not have animals.

Dogs now at rescue centre

Officials returned to check on the dogs early Wednesday morning. Finding them to be in distress, RCMP took them to an animal rescue centre and are now trying to determine if any of them were stolen.

Police were separately investigating reports that a woman had posed as a law enforcement officer and tried to take a dog from its owner after asking questions.

Investigators want anyone approached by a woman asking questions about dogs, or have had their dog recently stolen in the area, to call RCMP at 403-227-3342 or contact Crime Stoppers.
