8-year-old girl assaulted by man in Stony Plain; RCMP investigating

18-year-old man killed in semi rollover near Burstall, Sask.

RCMP in Stony Plain, Alta. are investigating an assault of an eight-year-old girl by an unknown man while playing on a sidewalk near her home.

Two girls, eight and nine, were playing on a sidewalk near 51st Street and 54th Avenue Friday at 4 p.m., police said in a news release.

Police said an unknown man then approached the girls. "He decided that when he walked by, he would pinch the buttocks of the young girl," Cpl. Kim Mueller told CBC Saturday.

The man didn't say anything to the girls and kept walking southbound on 51st Street. The girl was not harmed in the incident.

Stony Plain/Spruce Grove/Enoch RCMP are looking for the man, who was last seen walking westbound on 54th Avenue in Stony Plain.

"Obviously, the girls were pretty rattled about this," Mueller said. "Was this a joke? Was this a prank? Was it for a sexual purpose?"

Stony Plain/Spruce Grove/Enoch RCMP describe the suspect as:

- Caucasian

- Approximately five-foot 10 inches tall

- Slim build

- Dark hair

- Chin length curly hair

- Short, dark beard

- Wearing a blue shirt, possibly a hoodie with either blue or black pants

Mueller said police hope someone in the area either knows the man or saw him walking Friday. "We'd sure like to talk to this gentleman," she said.

Police are asking anyone with information on this man to call the Stony Plain police department at 780-968-7267.
