Rihanna knows how excited you are for her Super Bowl Halftime Show. The musician and entrepreneur, who keeps her social media presence famously low-key, just blessed us with a video from what looks like a rehearsal. Her lingerie brand, Savage X Fenty, dropped a limited-edition Game Day collection to celebrate. All signs point toward this being Rih’s world — we’re just admiring her in it.

Since the 34-year-old is as known for her fashion sense as she is for her music and top-tier beauty products, we’ve rounded up 10 of her most iconic looks over the years. The odds may be slim, but we’d love to see her revive any (or all) of them for the occasion.

No TV programming has ever served looks quite like early-2000s awards shows. When Rihanna performed at the 2009 American Music Awards, she brought the house down in a skin-baring bandage jumpsuit. Its broad shoulder pads took a cue from football players’ uniforms — that’s on the nose for the Super Bowl in the absolute best way.

Years before they were dating, Rihanna starred in A$AP Rocky’s music video for “Fashion Killa,” and of course, she’s dripping in designer the entire time. This Tom Ford gown is showstopping, but Rih’s cat-eared veil, which feels tailor-made for the Tumblr age, cements it as the MV’s most memorable outfit.

No Rihanna style retrospective would be complete without her near-naked crystal dress from the 2014 CFDA Awards. Yes, it inspired countless Halloween costumes, but it’s also the perfect moment to reference during a performance that encapsulates her career. Naturally, Rih doesn’t regret the gown, but wishes she’d worn it with a matching crystal thong.

Picking a favorite outfit from Rihanna’s 2016 Video Music Awards performance is a near-impossible ask, but this one stands out for its innovative mix of athleisure, lingerie, and high-fashion touches, all topped off with a long, netted durag. She wore it during the show’s viral dancehall medley, and we can see something similar going down at halftime.

These two trends may be happening in 2023, but Rihanna was way ahead of the game in 2017 when she stepped out in a corset-like collared shirt and baggy cargo pants. Part of us is anticipating something similar for her Super Bowl show since the combo is both sporty and sexy, and those oversized pants would be perfect for a fun dance number.

We’ll be shocked if Rih’s Super Bowl show doesn’t pay tribute to the legendary fashion of Barbados’s Crop Over festival. She just about broke the internet when she wore this jewel-encrusted, feather-outlined look for the 2018 celebration. Her turquoise wig somehow made it even more jaw-dropping.

Rih might be the queen of cohesive clashing, and her red carpet look for the 2020 Savage X Fenty fashion show proved that in spades. Professional sports could always use more leather, lace, and fishnets, so keep your fingers that she’ll channel this energy. It’s punk, elevated, and quintessentially Rihanna.
