85-Vehicle Pileup Closes Interstate in Wisconsin's Rock County

At least 21 people were injured in a pileup involving at least 85 vehicles on Interstate-39/90 in Rock County, Wisconsin, on Friday, January 27, the Wisconsin State Patrol (WSP) reported.

According to local news reports, a nearby hospital said it received 27 patients with injuries.

No deaths were reported.

WSP said authorities closed both sides of I-39/90 shortly after the incident was reported between Janesville and Beloit at 12:30 pm local time. By 8:20 pm local time, southbound lanes had been reopened. All lanes were reopened by 9:30 pm.

“This incident occurred during a severe winter weather event with snow, ice and whiteout conditions believed to be a factor in the initial crash,” WSP said.
