$86,491 for Aylmer councillors in 2020

Aylmer council received a total of $86,491 in 2020 from the municipality in pay, expenses, and roles on other boards, committees, and corporations.

An annual report on remuneration was presented at a virtual council meeting on Monday, March 15. Aylmer Mayor Mary French described the report as “self-explanatory.”

Mayor French received $17,674 in 2020, Deputy Mayor Sheri Andrews $13,256, while all other councillors—Peter Barbour, Arthur Oslach, Tom Charlton, Mary Hamm, and Jamie Chapman—made received $10,343 each. No one claimed travel or other expenses in 2020.

Some council members serve on other boards, committees, and corporations, for which they were compensated. As chair of the Aylmer Police Services Board (PSB), Deputy Mayor Andrews received an additional $1,800. Cr. Barbour received $1,200 as an Aylmer PSB member and received $85 in expenses as part of his role on the Elgin Area Primary Water Board. Cr. Oslach claimed $756 as a Catfish Creek Conservation Authority Board member.

At the same meeting, council voted to increase their annual remuneration by $8,500 in 2021, a 10% increase for all roles.
