A 9-year-old child was shot and killed outside a Miami-Dade apartment complex, cops say

A Saturday night shooting outside a Florida City apartment complex ended with a 9-year-old dead, police say.

According to Miami-Dade police, which will handle the homicide investigation, a report of gunfire just after 9:30 p.m. brought Florida City police officers to the area of 865 Lucy St., part of the Southpoint Crossing Apartments. They arrived to find the wounded boy, who had been with a group outside the complex when the shooting began. Police didn’t reveal whether or not they know what led up to the shooting.

An airlift to HCA Florida Kendall Regional by Miami-Dade Fire Rescue couldn’t save the child’s life.
