‘Accidental’ Stoney Creek fire causes at least $150K in damage

An early-morning Stoney Creek house fire has caused between $150,000 and $200,000 in damage.

The Hamilton Fire Department says crews responded to a fire at 999 Highway 8 in Stoney Creek at approximately 5:30 a.m. on Friday.

In an email to The Spectator, assistant deputy fire chief Shawn De Jager said they found “a fully involved garage fire that had spread to the attached home” upon arrival.

“Crews performed an aggressive fire attack and eventually extinguished the fire,” he said.

No injuries were reported among the home’s occupants, who all vacated the building.

The cause of the fire “appears to be accidental in nature,” De Jager said.
