Actor Richard Gere flips off ‘Today’ show’s Savannah Guthrie on live TV
While promoting his new thriller, “The Agency,” “Pretty Woman” actor Richard Gere visited the “Today” show set.
He then proceeded to take anchor Savannah Guthrie by surprise during their interview.
While talking about the new Paramount+ show on Nov. 20, Gere and Guthrie shared a sneak peak of the series.
The scene showed Gere intensely interacting with his co-stars before it ended early.
When the cameras showed Guthrie and Gere again in the studio, Gere was flipping Guthrie the bird. Guthrie quickly put her notes over Gere’s hand to censor the obscene gesture.
“You just did an obscene gesture on this family morning show!” a stunned Guthrie exclaimed. ”I’m bleeping you!”
“You know, Cher was on here doing an F-bomb yesterday, so I don’t know what’s happening!” she said, still stunned.
“You didn’t show but that’s what I did in the piece!” Gere explained, revealing the show cut the clip early. “That’s what the clip was!”
“That’s what the clip was, but we cut that part out. But then you did it live!” Guthrie explained.
“I could see that, but it didn’t make any sense without that!” Gere continued.
He then insisted the move wasn’t intentional. “My hand did that, I have no control!”
This is Gere’s first-ever television series.
Over his lengthy career, TV Guide reports that Gere has at least 66 movie credits.
In the end, Guthrie and Gere were able to laugh off the moment after Gere apologized, saying, “Oh sorry” and admitting he didn’t realize he was on camera.
