ASHFIELD-COLBORNE-WAWANASH – ACW council accepted tenders for the Birch Beach Road Culvert and Spillway Replacement and 2021 paving April 6 ACW council meeting.

Council awarded VanDriel Excavating Inc. the contract for the Birch Beach Road project at $870,061.73, which includes the HST.

The Birch Beach Road Culvert and Spillway replacement is part of the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program (ICIP).

The ICIP is one way the Government of Canada is delivering funds to communities through the Investing in Canada Plan.

According to the federal government website, the program provides long-term, stable funding delivered by Infrastructure Canada to:

- Help communities reduce air and water pollution, provide clean water, increase resilience to climate change and create a clean-growth economy;

- Build strong, dynamic and inclusive communities; and

- Ensure Canadian families have access to modern, reliable services that improve their quality of life.

No start date was announced for this project due to pending approvals from both the Conservation Authority and Fisheries and Oceans Canada.

Lavis Contracting Co. Ltd. won the tender for the proposed 2021 Paving Program, which is for Horizon View Road’s paving from Highway 21 west.

This tender was for $166,451.25 plus HST.

The township staff plan to do road and grader preparation as well as supply and place the gravel. Public Works Superintendent, Brian Van Osch, told council that this was standard practice for the township.
