Adam Kinzinger Shares His 'Honest To God' Thoughts About Trump Win
Former Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-Ill.) on Friday wrote that he and other Americans are “REINVIGORATED” as he offered his two cents on Donald Trump’s presidential election win.
“Can i be clear about something? I have absolutely no fear of Trump. Honest to God,” Kinzinger, a frequent Trump critic, said on social media.
“This narrative that his opponents are intimidated is what MAGA wants to believe,” he added, referring to Trump’s “Make America Great Again” movement.
Kinzinger was one of 10 House Republicans who voted to impeach Trump over the then president’s role in the Jan. 6, 2021, insurrection. And in a speech at the Democratic National Convention this summer, he slammed both the GOP and Trump as he backed Democrat Kamala Harris.
On the campaign trail, Trump had recommended potentially deploying the military against “radical-left lunatics” on Election Day and suggested that former Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) would be less of a “radical war hawk” if she had guns “trained on her face.” Like Kinzinger, Cheney supported Harris’ presidential campaign and once served on a House committee investigating the 2021 insurrection.
Kinzinger wrote on Substack this week that he was “absolutely, resolutely unafraid of Donald Trump” before arguing that the president-elect “depends on fear.”
“He builds his whole image around being ‘strong,’ ‘tough,’ a supposed champion of the ‘common man,’” Kinzinger said.
“But strength doesn’t come from endless bullying, degrading insults, or an ability to throw temper tantrums every time he doesn’t get his way. That’s not strength; it’s weakness.”
Kinzinger dismissed concerns that he’ll face “retaliation” over his criticisms as Trump prepares to move into the White House.
“Let’s be honest — what would that even look like?” he asked.
“Mean posts on his social media platform? Outrageous nicknames? Maybe a mob of his most ardent supporters trying to intimidate me or my family? Been there, seen it. And I’m still here. Trump’s tactics are predictable, tired, and, frankly, more sad than threatening.”
