Adam Whalen facing 28 charges after 3 high-speed chases

Adam Whalen, the man accused of leading the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary on three separate chases in the St. John's area earlier this week, made a first appearance in St. John's provincial court Friday to face 28 charges.

An arrest warrant was issued for Whalen, 19, on Wednesday, two days after he allegedly sped away from police in a stolen SUV, not once, but twice in different parts of the city.

The incident ended early Monday morning, when another SUV, allegedly driven by Whalen, smashed into a car on Gower Street, setting off a three-vehicle collision.

He's also accused in a similar incident that occurred Tuesday night on Portugal Cove Road, resulting in charges of possession of stolen vehicles, evading police, dangerous driving and numerous breaches of court orders and probation.

Whalen already has convictions for stealing cars, dangerous driving, driving with no insurance, beaches of probation and court orders.

He has similar charges before the courts.

He was arrested in the area of Commonwealth Avenue in Mount Pearl shortly after 11 p.m. Thursday.

Whalen's next court appearance is slated for August.
