Adidas unveil new Pharrell Williams-designed Humanrace jersey range featuring Arsenal and Manchester United
Arsenal and Manchester United are among the top European clubs who will soon be sporting artistic new jerseys co-designed by music superstar Pharrell Williams.
On Friday morning, Adidas officially unveiled their new Humanrace range, featuring shirts for five teams designed with an eye-catching hand-painted aesthetic.
Arsenal's iconic 1990s 'bruised banana' away shirt has been reimagined with a "paint-bleed effect update", while United have seen their snowflake-style blue and white change strip from the same era modernised with a tie dye effect.
All shirts feature hand-painted crests and manufacturer logos, with the word 'Humanrace' replacing sponsors.
Arsenal and United - along with Real Madrid - are set to sport the new jerseys before matches from this weekend, when the two teams take on Leicester and Chelsea respectively in the top-flight.
European champions Bayern Munich also feature and are set to don their reimagined home shirts in-game in the next round of the German Cup, while Serie A giants Juventus will do likewise against Hellas Verona in Turin on Sunday.
Adidas say the ambition behind the project - which also features shirts designed for 'Humanrace FC' - was to "demonstrate football is for everyone and the human race at its best, uniting together while celebrating our differences."
“History is what shapes the future, and sometimes in order to look forwards, first we need to look back," said Pharrell, who serves as Humanrace creative director.
"The most important part of the process with this collection was to learn of each club’s legacies and how each defining moment of their histories were captured and preserved from a design perspective.
"Each of the new jerseys are symbols of the five club’s legacies and a true celebration of the universality of sport.”
