While most of the world is in a state of lockdown, many couples, including Princess Beatrice, have been forced to make the difficult decision to postpone their wedding due to the coronavirus pandemic.

But, that doesn't mean love is cancelled. In a genius move, some couples have decided to throw virtual weddings on Nintendo's popular Animal Crossing: New Horizons video game.

A US couple from New Jersey, that were identified as Sharmin Asha and Nazmul Ahmed by Insider, were all set to walk down the aisle on April 12 before the pandemic hit.

Taking to Reddit to share the news of their virtual nuptials, @Ashmush said: "My fiance and I had to cancel our upcoming wedding due to Covid-19, so our best friends gave us a surprise Animal Crossing wedding instead," with the post racking up over 30 thousand likes on the site:

Sharmin said that Nazmul planned the adorable ceremony with his friends after events such as her medical school graduation and their upcoming nuptials were cancelled.

"I was feeling pretty down about missing out on my milestones. This made me so happy, I don't even have the words to describe how much it meant to me.(Also if you zoom in close he made a little N&S for our initials on the hearts floor)."

But, they're not the only couple who are taking their wedding vows to virtual heights, with San Francisco based artist Alex Martinezart taking to Twitter to post screen-shots of her big day from the video game after friends surprised her with an impromptu ceremony.

The beach wedding featured a mini aisle with the couple's names which were lit by Tiki torches, as well as a framed picture of the pair, with friends attending the event from around the globe.

This just proves once again that love cannot be stopped in the corona-age and that in some cases virtual reality is even better than real thing.
