Adrian Beltre hugs former teammate Carlos Beltran to get him out
We’ve missed you, Adrian Beltre. The Texas Rangers third baseman doesn’t just delight us with his play. He’s usually good for a handful of gifable moments in the field.

We’re not talking about all those times he’s hit home runs from his knees, either. We’re talking about his intentional bouts of goofiness, usually involving teammate Elvis Andrus.
On Saturday, he managed to include former teammate Carlos Beltran on his shenanigans. It all happened in the top of the fifth inning. With men on first and second, Alex Bregman hit a grounder to Beltre at third.
All Beltre had to do was step on the bag to retire the side. But he knew who was running to the bag, and had another idea.
Yes, Beltran was on second, and was heading toward third on contact. When Beltre saw his former teammate, he walked toward him and embraced him for the out. Beltran realized he was out by a mile, and gladly accepted the gesture.
Following the game, Beltran told MLB.com reporter Sam Butler the hug was in celebration of Beltre’s great career.
“He was trying to tag me and I had nowhere to go, so I just ended up giving him a hug for the great career that he had in baseball…just a fun moment.”
We’ll never know if either exchanged words during the embrace, but if they did, we’re guessing it was about their future Hall of Fame speeches.
