Northwest Territories RCMP are reporting the successful conviction of an adult on charges related to internet child exploitation.
The police are withholding most of the details, including the name of the accused and where the crime was committed. Spokesperson Marie York Condon said they don't want to identify the victims or re-traumatize them.
In a news release, she said the N.W.T. RCMP's Major Crimes Unit began an investigation in 2015 following reports of child pornography and exploitation.
The person convicted was coercing youth into providing nude photos through social media. This person was also charged with child luring, extortion and possession of child pornography.
Some of the victims were youth from the Northwest Territories and some were from elsewhere.
York Condon said the accused received a three-year sentence.
