Aerie Model Nià Pettitt Talks About Back Acne

Whatever your feelings toward acne, the subject of breakouts is one that comes up frequently when we talk about beauty. Whether you like watching others pop pimples, are looking for ways to treat your own, or want to embrace your zits, it seems everyone has an opinion on the subject. And recently, one model shared her experience to highlight something important about her own experiences.

Model Nià Pettitt took to Instagram to share a recent experience modeling for an Aerie swimwear shoot. According to her post, the model struggled with bacne in her younger years and when she saw a photo of herself in the campaign wearing a bathing suit, she instantly got emotional.

"I remember when I was 7, acne started to show on my face and I used to get bullied in school all the time about it. It didn't go till I was 17 but by that time it had spread onto my back. I used to be so self-conscience," she said in her caption. She goes on to describe different scenarios that she would avoid to hide her skin, like in dressing rooms or while swimming. Her skin has since cleared up quite a bit and she feels comfortable discussing her struggles in the past. She explains, "Despite all of that I am now about to be all over America with @aerie flaunting my lines of love. If you have them, ROCK them. Look in the mirror the next time you get dressed and tell every stretch mark and every acne scar that it is a part of the magic that makes you, you. Wear that dress without worrying about what people will think. Wear that bikini without hesitation."

As more and more Instagrammers use their platforms to talk candidly about their acne, it's changing the way we talk about zits. Granted, we all get them, but they shouldn't stand in the way of you living your life and celebrating your features. We're going to take a page out of Nià's book and embrace those breakouts without hesitation. As she said in her post, "You got this baby girl. You got this Queen."
