Aggravated assault charge laid after man seriously injured

Handgun, ammunition stolen from St. John's business

A woman has been arrested and charged after what police are calling a serious assault with a weapon in St. John's. 

The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary was called at 12:10 a.m., Thursday about an assault in the Empire Avenue area.

After a short search, a K-9 unit found a man with serious injuries who had been attacked with a weapon.

The man, 35, was taken to hospital, where he remained Thursday morning. Police have not described the nature of his injuries.

A woman, 39, has been arrested and is facing an aggravated assault charge.

She was being held in custody to appear in provincial court Thursday.

Police said the two people know each other.
