Airdrie to Calgary police chase leads to lengthy list of charges

A 20-year-old man and 18-year-old woman are facing a number of charges relating to house break-ins and a police chase from Airdrie to Calgary earlier this week.

The chase began about 10:30 a.m. Wednesday when Airdrie RCMP spotted a vehicle reported to have been stolen at gunpoint that morning.

The pursuit eventually reached Calgary when RCMP broke off and city police took over, using the HAWCS helicopter to track the car.

A man and a woman were arrested downtown.

Police also accused the pair in a home break-in in Airdrie the day before and a break-in in Cochrane that morning.

In relation to the car theft, the pair are charged with:

- Unauthorized possession of a firearm or prohibited weapon in a motor vehicle

- Possession of a firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized

- Pointing a firearm

- Uttering Threats to cause death or bodily harm

- Robbery with a restricted (or prohibited) firearm

- Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose

- Theft of a motor vehicle

- Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle

- Flight from police

- Using a firearm in the commission of an offence

- The man is also facing a charge of possessing a firearm contrary to an order

Relating to the Cochrane break-in, the pair are charged with:

- Robbery with a restricted (or prohibited) firearm

- Pointing a firearm

- Break and enter a dwelling house and commit robbery

- Uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm

- Theft under $5,000

- Possession of a firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized

And relating to the Airdrie break-in, they are charged with:

- Break and enter a dwelling house and commit robbery

- Theft of a motor vehicle

- Possession of property obtained by crime

- Flight from police

​Both remain in custody and their bail hearing is set for Aug. 4.
