Akim Aliu reportedly signs with team in Czech Extraliga

Akim Aliu is not giving up his playing career.

According to Alex Prewitt of Sports Illustrated, the 30-year-old who was pushed into the spotlight for exposing former Calgary Flames head coach Bill Peters’ past racist comments is signing for HC Litvinov of the Czech Extraliga, the top division of hockey in the Czech Republic.

There are only 14 games remaining in the team’s season and Aliu will reportedly play his first game on Friday.

Aliu exposing Peters’ racist past eventually led to the coach resigning from his position and forcing the entire hockey world to reflect on their own culture.

Even though he has only played 25 total games of professional hockey in the last two years, the forward is not letting it slip away from him, even with the recent public saga.
