The couple announced in January that they were going their separate ways after 13 years together in total and three years of marriage.
The star addressed the split as he appeared on ITV's Lorraine, saying that both he and Drayton were excited about the future.
Discussing how long they had been together, Carr joked to host Lorraine Kelly: "Which in gay years, is 207 years!"
He went on: "I wrote the tour, and then our marriage broke down during COVID, because it was so stressful, everything...
"And then I was going on stage and I was just like, 'Well this doesn't make sense, this doesn't make sense'."
"So we're divorced now, he's excited about the future, I'm excited about the future," continued the Chatty Man star.
"We are still always going to be friends because we've been through so much together."
Carr and Drayton dated for many years before tying the knot in 2018.
They exchanged vows in Adele’s back garden, as Carr is close friends with the Rolling In The Deep singer.
Announcing their split in a joint statement, he and Drayton said: "After 13 years as a couple and three years of marriage, Alan Carr and Paul Drayton would like to announce they are separating.
"They have jointly and amicably made the difficult decision to divorce and go their separate ways. We request that their privacy is respected at this sensitive time."
