Alaska Highway reopens after collision blocks traffic near Watson Lake

A two-vehicle collision at the Upper Liard bridge closed the Alaska Highway west of Watson Lake, Yukon, this morning.

The vehicles blocked traffic until they could be towed away.

Yukon 511 issued a travel advisory for parts of the Alaska Highway this morning because of freezing rain.

Drivers in the area at the time say the bridge deck had a layer of ice on it resulting in slippery conditions.

During the closure, vehicles were backed up and drivers say they were waiting for two hours before the road reopened.
