Alberta highway crash sends woman to hospital as police issue long weekend warning
A multi-vehicle crash on the Trans-Canada Highway near Cochrane sent one person to hospital on Friday morning.
It comes as police release sobering collision statistics heading into the long weekend.
The woman in her 40s was transported to the Foothills Medical Centre in stable non-life-threatening condition.
The incident, which involved a rollover, occurred around 11:30 a.m. on the westbound lanes of Highway 1 near Range Road 40.
No one else was injured.
75 deaths since May long weekend
Police are urging Albertans to drive safely over the long weekend. Since the Victoria Day long weekend in May, there have been more than 1,000 injury collisions on Alberta highways.
Officials say 65 of those collisions resulted in 75 deaths, and two pedestrians were killed in separate incidents.
The RCMP will conduct enhanced checkstops across the province all weekend as part of National Impaired Driving Enforcement Day.
