Alberta poll suggests support growing for Wildrose party

A new poll suggests the Wildrose Party would garner the most votes if a provincial election was held right now.

The poll by Mainstreet Technologies gives Wildrose 33 per cent support, followed by the NDP at 26 per cent and the PCs in third place with 20 per cent. But when it comes to party leaders, NDP Premier Rachel Notley still leads the pack, with an approval rating of 50 per cent.

Wildrose Leader Brian Jean, who was attending the party's western-themed barbecue on Thursday night, said the results weren't surprising.

"I don't believe Albertans are satisfied with the current government, and they are seeing first-hand some of the situations and some of the legislation they are bringing in, which are counterintuitive to what most Albertans believe."

The June 30 poll surveyed a random sample of slightly more than 3,000 Albertans on land lines and cellphones. The margin of error is plus or minus 1.79 percentage points, 19 times out of 20.
