RCMP have laid murder charges after a woman was found dead near Pincher Creek, Alta., last Friday.

A 26-year-old woman from Medicine Hat, Alta., has been charged with first-degree murder and offering an indignity to human remains.

The victim was Megan Eekma, 34, of southern Alberta.

Police say the two women were travelling from B.C. to Alberta on Friday when an altercation ensued that resulted in Eekma's death.

The accused has not been released on bail and was scheduled to appear in Lethbridge Provincial Court on Thursday.

During the investigation, RCMP released sketches and pictures of the victim's tattoos and jewlery in order to determine her identity.

The RCMP's major crimes unit worked with the Lethbridge Police Service and RCMP detachments throughout southern Alberta.

An autopsy was completed by the Calgary Office of the Chief Medical Examiner on Monday.
