Alcohol addiction study to examine effects on seniors

The UPEI School of Nursing is looking for people to take part in a late-life addiction study.

Gloria MacInnis-Perry, the principal investigator, said there are increasing numbers of seniors in the health system with alcohol-related problems. Researchers want to take a closer look at the affects of their addiction.

"We're hoping that it will help us understand what addiction is all about in older adults," said MacInnis-Perry. She said they'll also examine how older adults with addictions are cared for.

MacInnis-Perry said participants will be asked to talk about their addiction in an interview that will take about an hour. Candidates for the study must have been diagnosed with alcohol addiction at age 55 or older, and be sober now.

Anyone interested in taking part can contact MacInnis-Perry through UPEI's School of Nursing.
